Because history books actually contain equal amounts to crack to gossip magazines. Case in point, the conspiracy theory brought to you by early nineteenth century England ‘proving’ that Napoleon was actually the Anti-Christ and now hiding that fact by cleverly having changed the original spelling of his name. (Cause, it turns out, if you keep spelling it Napoleon Bonaparte, the numerology suddenly doesn’t work. Funny that.)
