Informative Durian Graph

civet

The Latin name for the most commonly available durian fruite is Durio zibetha, with zibetha referring to the Indian civet. There are two possible origins for that name: 1) That the fruit is a particular favourite of the civet, it being used as bait to trap the animal or less likely 2) that the durian and the civet do in fact smell the same. “According to the specific name zibethinusm the fruit should ophresiologically remind one of the civet cat; the writer, however, after having seen and smelled live civets in Mozambique, does not concur in this idea.” (Barret 1912 as cited in Brown, J. 1997. Durio, a Bibliographic Review, New Delhi: International Plant Genetic Resources Institute, p.2)
